Swiss Vote to Penalize Public Homophobia

A Swiss referendum on Sunday cleared the way for the country to close a loophole in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender(LGBT) rights by extending anti-racism to cover sexual orientation. Conservative Swizerland, unlike many of its western European neighbors, does not have laws that specifically protect LGBT from descrimination. Swiss voters agreed to penalize public homophobia, green-lighting an amendment to an anti-descrimination law that had not provided protection for LGBT people.
