1. say 와 tell ① 표면적으로는 둘 다 '말하다'라는 의미를 갖지만 특히 'tell은 어떤 것을 알려주거나(inform) 가르칠 (instruct) 때' 쓴다. 이런 의미로는 say를 쓸 수 없다. He said to me that it was my last chance. → He told me that it was my last chance. He said to me 'Good morning.' ↔ He told me, 'Good morning.'(*) 'What's your problem?' I said. ↔ 'What's your problem?' I told her.(*) ② tell 뒤에는 말을 듣는 대상(사람)이 와야 한다(목적어로 사람을 취한다). 반면에 say는 사람을 목적어로 취하지 않는다. 사람을 표시하려면 전치사 to를 붙인다. 예외적으로 tell a lie, tell a story/joke, tell the truth 등..........
