고등학교 때 한국지리 시간에 배운 잠실이라는 지역은 송파구 잠실동에 있던 지역으로서, 조선 초에 이곳에 양잠을 장려하기 위해 뽕나무를 심고 잠실을 두었던 데서 마을 이름이 유래되었다. 서울 동쪽에 있으므로 동잠실 또는 잠실리·부리도 등으로 불렀다고 한다.
